The Waco ISD
Education Foundation's "SurPrize Patrol" has once again
produced hundreds of smiles throughout the district by awarding
more than $104-thousand in grants. The decisions were tough, but
28 grants were awarded to 21 campuses. The Foundation is pleased
to have so many fantastic teachers in Waco ISD with creative ideas
about how to do more in the classroom. Through their motivation
and the Foundation's funding, we are truly Raising the Power of
Education in Waco!

Students will "travel" to Egypt, build pyramids, decipher
the Egyptian hieroglyphics, learn the Egyptian number system, design
their own Pharoah necklace and discover old Egyptian artifacts.

Electronic tuners with microphone clips will assist all band students
in improving their intonation skills.

Fifth grade students will prepare science lessons and teach the
lesson to their first grade science buddy through a peer mentoring,
hands-on, minds-on, center based lesson/activity.

This project will include an outdoor play space consisting of tricycles,
a bike track and outdoor musical equipment. It will accommodate
children with physical disabilities without separating them from

This grant project will provide steel drums for the performance
group and other students to learn music, build confidence and study
another culture through a three-year program.
